THIS IS BLACK HONEY'S YEAR

A new year means different things to different people but for many, it is the marker of new music. Every year a new act finally delivers their much anticipated, and sometimes dreaded, debut album. This year, Brighton's Black Honey are set to make that plunge.

Black Honey’s journey has been a long one, opting to remain independent from corporate record labels in favour of a determined DIY ethos. Their debut LP has been long awaited, but in an interview I conducted for Newcastle Student Radio, lead singer, Izzy Phillips, explained the delay: "we're in a transitional era for us at the moment and we're really excited to see where all the songs are going."

The foursome have a unique sound, mixing classic western rock with a movie soundtrack feel. They have the coolest merch around ranging from vibrant vinyls to neat, stylish tees. They're one of the friendliest bunch you could meet off-stage but once on it, something takes over them. Their live shows are more than just a gig but a performance, a whirlwind of noise and swagger.

The Brighton band vaguely announced their debut album on New Year’s Eve, informing fans 2018 will be the year. Later, they then teased fans by claiming their new material is a mash-up of Blondie, The Beatles and Quentin Tarantino’s soundtracks.

Keep an eye out for these four, they're something special.
