'HER MUSIC' SPOTLIGHT

HER Music is a company on a mission, highlighting incredible female artists as well as creating a hub where women can get help and advice about their music and meet other aspiring female artists. The company began to help address the shocking gender imbalance in the music industry. In 2017, only 14% of acts at UK festivals were female. It's simply a crime. So we've teamed up with them to produce a spotlight feature on three of their fantastic artists.

First up is alt-pop band Loux, who's latest single 'Cool' is turning heads with its catchy hooks, infectious synth line and smooth jazz vocals. The song is drowned in 70s vintage flavour and keeps you pressing repeat. Lyrically, 'Cool' is a journey of realisation and self-acceptance that you can no longer sit back and relax, that you've got to fight for everything you want. It is a track about insecurities and anxieties, about not being the 'cool' person anymore, that is cleverly contrasted by a laid back feel sonically. The band are DIY down to their core, writing, producing and playing all of their music.

This year they have already played the illustrious Live At Leeds festival and now they prepare to play Long Division Festival. They have received airplay on BBC Radio and their energetic electro pop has certainly got people talking.

Next up is M.I, an East London RnB artist who has begun to take Leeds by storm and is now ready to do the same nationwide. M.I featured on BBC One's 'Pitch Battle', winning the show with her group, Leeds Contemporary Singers, performing with the likes of Will Young and Kelis.

Her new single, 'Euphoria' is an enticing, atmospheric track that demonstrates her effortless vocal. The minimalist instrumental provides the perfect platform for empowering lyrics to shine as M.I produces a song to provide escape for her listeners.

Our third artist is Becky Bowe, who's latest single, 'That's How Love Works', recently reached number 9 on the singer-songwriter iTunes chart, up there with the likes of George Ezra. The backing vocals on the track provide a soulful feel, whilst the piano riff, a constant throughout the track, offers a vintage, 1920s touch.

The song is a portrayal of a relationship that needs work in order to save it. It's honest and truthful, a personal tale straight from the heart. The use of emotive lyrics allows Bowe to reach the audience at a personal level and provides a message of support to those suffering a rough patch in their relationships. Bowe has produced a song that is relaxing and hypnotic but most importantly, demonstrates her flawless vocal.
