As AM finally return most people have been eager to see what
songs made the final cut for their live comeback. Whilst the likelihood of them
altering their setlist for their various tours and festival shows due to their vast
pot of hits is high, there’s likely to be a number of setlist stalwarts that help maintain
the structure of their show, allowing them to create the mood and atmosphere
they want to, namely the opening and closing tracks. Whilst a lot of people are
eager to see if they played their favourite song, there are some who would
prefer the setlist to remain a surprise. We understand if people personally
choose to check the set-list, but we ask, please keep it all to yourself! The
fact that people are posting this across social media is frankly annoying.
Part of the gig experience is that feeling when they finally
play your favourite song, the song you came to see. Even if it’s their most popular
song and they are guaranteed to play it, namely ‘R U Mine?’ or even ‘Mr.
Brightside’ for you Killers’ fans, there’s still the question of when they will
play it.
‘Mr. Brightside’ is generally a set closer for The Killers
however, on numerous occasions they have brought it forward to close the main
set, before ‘When You Were Young’ takes them home during the encore but on other
occasions they have even opened with this track. Imagine if you were lucky
enough to see this rare wonder. Imagine the shiver through your body head to
toe, the goose bumps that would burst out from everywhere as the hairs on your
neck rise to offer a standing ovation. Or, imagine this was ruined as the surprise
was leaked across social media. You stand there waiting for the famous riff to
rip through the arena and you singalong, still enjoying it, but without that
rush of emotion.
The setlist reveal is part of the art of a live show. The
artists take time to craft it, ensuring their show flows smoothly. The setlist
reveal is also part of the gig experience and the emotion that
floods through your body as they play your favourite tune or a rarer track cannot
be replaced and stays with you forever. The reveal of a setlist on social media
only robs you of this feeling.
