INTRODUCING: KING PRINCESS

Michaela Strauss, known as King Princess in the music world, is a 19 year old with the world at her feet. Her debut single, 1950, inspired by the 1952 novel, 'The Price of Salt', has attracted the attention of none other than Harry Styles and is closing in on 70 million streams on Spotify, not a bad start.

Smooth pop packed with swagger and charisma, King Princess writes songs that are pleasing on the ear but pack a meaningful punch when listened to closely. Raised in Brooklyn, the borough's dogged, DIY ethos filters through in her songs whilst her current home, LA, provides a calm, palm tree aspect to her sound.

It is her lyrics that set her apart from being 'just another pop star' however. King Princess is standing up for the LGBQT community with her 'lesbian love songs'. She combines literary references with abstract ideas about her experiences as a young female, growing up in a toxic, confused world. 1950 also touches on experiences of anxiety and insecurity, 'did you mean it when you said I was pretty?' Meanwhile her latest track, 'Talia', appears as a love letter to an ex-partner.

Strauss is a fearless song writer with a stunning vocal. Sonically, she keeps it simple which drives her words and voice to the forefront of both songs. Most importantly, she is yet another pop star beginning to use their incredible platform to spread messages. As the streaming figures show, despite being at the beginning of what promises to be a successful career, King Princess has already got the attention of the world and is bound to continue producing delightful pop songs packed with honesty, ready to help push change.
