OPINION: THE MUST-HAVE SONGS ON YOUR SUMMER SOUNDTRACK

Every year there’s usually one huge pop anthem that becomes the sound of the summer. When the sun comes out the music you play often changes, you start to listen to those festival anthems that remind you of the good times. We at The Rodeo are no different and we thought it's about time we share the songs we'll be playin' all summer long. Oh, and you're welcome...

ONE KISS – DUA LIPA (& CALVIN HARRIS)
We’re yet to meet someone who doesn’t like Dua Lipa. This song is an explosion of joy and gets everyone dancing. It’s hard to knock it and will no doubt be the first track on every playlist this summer.

LISBON - WOLF ALICE
This is a personal favourite at The Rodeo and instantly reminds us of summer. Whether it’s the Lisbon imagery or the euphoric riff that reminds of being on holiday we’re not sure but it’s the first song we play when the sun comes out.

THE DAY I DIE - THE NATIONAL
Again, a bit of a leftfield choice. However, this song has a chirpy riff, a catchy chorus and an uplifting feel, making us feel positive and summery, directly contrasting the song’s title.

SUNDAY CANDY - DONNIE TRUMPET & THE SOCIAL EXPERIMENT
Sweets. Trumpets. Chance The Rapper. Do we need to explain this any further?

RADIOACTIVE - KINGS OF LEON
Whether it's the palm tree silhouettes and sunset imagery on the album cover, or the Californian feel of the main riff, this track instantly sends you on holiday to the southern states of the USA.

EXPLORE - SUNDARA KARMA
This disco-tinged indie pop dance floor filler gets everyone moving and singing. It will no doubt be the highlight of many festivals and its upbeat feel is perfect for a summer get together.

STUCK IN THE MIDDLE - STEALERS WHEELS
Old but gold. Everyone knows the words and everyone knows the dance.

NEW SONG - WARPAINT
The L.A. band released 'New Song' last year in what was an unexpected change in sound. The quartet dropped their haunting harmonies in favour of a catchy melody and sing-along chorus. Whilst their previous work may be better suited for a winters day next to a fire, 'New Song' is perfect for blasting out with a beer under the sun.

HEAT WAVE - SNAIL MAIL
Rolling Stone's song of the summer, 'Heat Wave' sees Snail Mail melodically yearn for a green eyed dreamboat. With a short sharp riff, as fruity as a Fanta fruit twist, it's catchy, but not overused. The track, although jaunty and upbeat, using percussion that forces your head to nod, resonates with the bland aspects of summer, the boredom that inevitable occurs over the long period. It's catchy, summery, and will inevitably resonate with you all at some point, especially when the World Cup is over.

Which tracks will be on your summer playlist? We'd love to know. Leave a comment, send us a tweet. Whatever you fancy.
