OPINION: 'PEOPLE' DEMONSTRATES DESSNER'S GENIUS ONCE AGAIN

Aaron and Bryce, the Dessner twins responsible for The National's trademark guitar riffs and orchestral arrangements, have once again demonstrated their innovation through the creation of 'People', alongside Justin Vernon, known better as Bon Iver.

A scrapyard for soundbites, outtakes, alternate versions and rare hidden gems, 'People' is an artist-directed streaming platform with no boundaries, restrictions or requirements on the music that is published. It is simply place for music to exist and for artists to grow. Alongside each album, there is usually a library of unused songs and soundbites and 'People' gives artists the opportunity to recycle their unused waste.

The platform can be used to publish any side-projects, such as 'Big Red Machine', a collaboration between Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner, which brings some of the fun back as artists release music simply for the enjoyment of it, forgetting the commercial aspect for a second. It can also act as a library for rare records too, as demonstrated by the Leonard Cohen cover of 'Memories', which was originally recorded by a large cast, including Matt Berninger, for Bryce Dessner's wedding present.

It truly is a magical idea and demonstrates the Dessner's innate love for music, but also the innovation and creativity flooding through their bodies.
