FASHION: WHY WEARING A JACKET IS VITAL

As you stand there waiting for the band you've been so patiently waiting for all day to arrive on stage there's several thoughts flooding your mind. You quickly ponder over what song will kick the show off. You pray your favourite song is on the set list. Yet there's something more important, much more pressing on your mind. You found some pictures on social media from the band's last few shows and drooled over what you saw. Yet now all you can do is wait and hope that you will be treated like the last few crowds were, that the lead singer has not grown bored of that stunning jacket, and that they will wear it once more just for your viewing pleasure. That's right, the thought that passes through everyone's mind right before the show starts, 'what jacket will they wear today?'

The most important part of a live show is the lead singer's jacket. A staple piece for anyone trying to put on a memorable show, the key to a great performance. No matter the weather, the venue, the type of show, a jacket is a must. Of course, you may take it off after the first few songs but you must always start with a jacket. Otherwise, is it even a show?

Every now and again it's acceptable to leave it in the wardrobe, I guess, but only every now and again. Make it a habit and you'll start losing fans, fast. And don't you dare say there isn't a jacket out there that suits you, or suits the band's style or image. Don't be silly. There's a jacket out there for everyone. Blazers, leather jackets, bomber jackets, workman jackets, denim jackets hell even a kagoule or parka if you must. A light knit is perfectly ok too. There's nothing wrong with bringing out a cardigan every so often to change it up. So many options to choose from, why an artist would choose not to is baffling.

Jackets ooze class and scream swagger. They act as a magic wand that can turn ugly ducklings into showstopping swans ready to take on the world and win. The ability to control a crowd lives inside a jacket and not wearing one is a brave move, take the risk and you may get burnt, take the risk too many times and your career will suffer.

The reason The Killers' Wonderful Wonderful Tour has been so popular is the array of jackets Brandon Flowers has been sporting. A black blazer with rainbow lapels, the pink leather jacket, a western detailed beige number, a sparkling tassled delight not to mention the designer ensembles with tigers emblazoned across the arms and back, there's a reason their live shows are so spectacular.

Alex Turner has ensured to include at least a light-knit during AM's shows in the blazing heat, removing it if it ever got too hot, following procedure perfectly. He even shaved his head to ensure he could wear a jacket without overheating. Whilst Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, even in the 30 degree heat, maintain their black biker jackets. It's just a little bit of sacrifice but all for the greater good.

If you're a budding new band, take note. You can thank us later.
