ON TREND: MUSIC FILMS

With The Festival out in cinemas now, we thought we'd take a look at our favourite music-based films. The Festival, starring Joe Thomas, follows a young man who has been dumped by his girlfriend at graduation and thus, resorted to attending a music festival. But, is it better than these absolute gems?

Control (2007)
Control is a biopic of the legendary Ian Curtis, lead singer of Manchester's greatest ever band, Joy Division. His life was complicated, intense and at times, absurd, yet it also so wonderfully magical. The film brilliantly portrays the two sides of Curtis' life, both the shining successes and the bottomless lows.

Almost Famous (2007)
Directed by Cameron Crowe, a young budding journalist heads out on the trip of a lifetime as he goes on tour with fictitious band, Stillwater. Writing for Rolling Stone, the youngster enters the world of rock'N'roll in a dramatic coming-of-age tale with plenty of twist and turns that warms your heart throughout. A box-office bomb yet critically acclaimed, the film won four Academy Awards.

School Of Rock (2003)
Any explanation needed?

Walk The Line (2005)
Another brilliant biopic, this time detailing the trials and tribulations of the King of Country, Johnny Cash. A maverick, a genius, a groundbreaking superstar, Cash is one of THE all-time greats. A beautiful tale of a boy who became one of the best selling artists of all time against all odds, it's a gripping heartwarming story, but one that is told so well, with stellar performances from Joaquin Phoenix (Cash) and Reese Witherspoon (June Carter).

Have we missed any out?
