THE SHOOTOUT: YAWWN

Not sick and tired of these 'Shootouts' yet? Well here's another one. YAWWN take on The Shootout.

1. Best story from touring/playing shows?
On a support tour, on our way up from Bristol to Glasgow, the headlining band came down, one by one, with food poisoning in their tour van, vomming out the windows the whole way up the M6. By the time we reached Scotland we were the headliners of a cancelled show.
2. Best part of being in a band?
Playing a new song the whole way through for the first time at rehearsal, after hours of workshopping it/tweaking/writing and working out parts is a pretty unbeatable feeling. That first tangible sense that you’ve completed creating something that you then want everyone to hear.
3. and the worst...
There’s a fairrrrr amount of bandmin involved at all times. Oh and load outs, of course.
4. If you could take credit for one song which would it be?
What a Fool Believes - The Doobie Brothers.
5. Biggest fear?
Ever being able to eat as much breakfast as Pete Doherty.
6. Dream venue to headline?
Alexandra Palace. So many of the bands we’ve followed from day dot and seen play tiny little venues in the early days - The Maccabees, Bombay Bicycle Club, Jungle, The Vaccines - have ended up playing what feel like these huge, crowning-moment shows at Ally Pally. There’s always such a special feeling in that place - you’re surrounded by all these people who have also followed the band right up until that point and there’s always a huge reciprocated love in the room from band to fans - it feels as special for the band as the crowd.
7. Describe your sound in 3 words...
Not our words, but a review once called it ‘psych-flecked wonk pop’, which is probably pretty accurate. We’ve added a hyphen to make sure we’re playing by your rules.
8. Do you store ketchup in the fridge or the cupboard?
Differing opinions on this one. On the one hand, it literally says on the bottle that it doesn’t need to be kept in the fridge. On the other hand, that doesn’t mean that it tastes better in the cupboard. The contrast of cold ketchup and hot chip is king IMO.
9. Ideal choice of milkshake?
 Chocolate Oreo!!!
10. Musical influence?
Lots of different influences in Yawwn. Tame Impala, Superfood, Flyte, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, those are across the board. Beyond that, we each like disco, funk, jazz and 70s prog rock differing amounts and those work their way into our sound in dribs and drabs!
