LIVE: ARCTIC MONKEYS

Old met new as the Monkeys took us on a nostalgia trip with their 70s infused moon rock and debut-album-golden-oldies. The now trademark sirens rang as ‘Four Out Of Five’ sprinkled stardust over the arena before ‘Brianstorm’ allowed the crowd to get aggressive. Surprise inclusions like ‘Dancing Shoes’ and the Leonard-Cohen-inspired ‘The Ultracheese’ will live long in the memory, yet the show was stolen by a drum machine and an old classic. After Turner set up a backing track, ‘Mardy Bum’ began, goose bumps invading the body of everyone in there, before adding a touch of comedy at the end, serenading ex-Newcastle-United-and-Sheffield-Wednesday-footballer Chris Waddle, singing “there’s only one Chrissy Waddle”.
