LIVE: GOAT GIRL

Goat Girl’s debut is a short sharp burst of country-western mystery. The sole worry tonight was whether they’d fill the time a show like this demands. The six-piece did a superb job of diminishing any worries however, using instrumentals to break up the set (‘A Swamp Dog’s Tale’ used as a half-time break) and extending songs with extra instrumentals to lengthen the show. The violin, an intermittent feature on the album, appears more regularly to create an incessantly mysterious atmosphere. Lead-singer Lottie is a cool-calm-collected figure, swaying carefree, her dynamic vocal delivered with seeming ease. A nonchalant performance, but an accomplished one nonetheless, Goat Girl prove they’re one of Britain’s brightest bands.
