ON TREND: GLASTONBURY

Glastonbury tickets are about to sell out once again this weekend with only the lucky many getting their hands on the golden tickets. It's one of the world's few festivals that sells out before a single artist has been announced and yet, when those three headliners are announced, the world puts down whatever it is doing to discuss, dissect and disagree with the Eavis' choices. So I thought as Glastonbury is clearly 'On Trend' at the moment, that I'd predict which acts could top the bill this year, or rather, which acts I think should top the bill.

ARCTIC MONKEYS
Certainly everyone's favourites to headline, the Monkeys have had a divisive 2018, both with their lunar lounge rock album causing a ruckus amongst fans, as well as Alex Turner's facial hair. However, despite all the arguments and disappointment, AM's euphoric September UK tour put them firmly back in everyone's heart and in doing so, cemented them as one of Britain's most popular bands. Nowadays, when the Monkeys are around, Glasto has to invite them.

LANA DEL REY
Lana Del Rey is going to rule 2019 and if you read last week's 'On Trend' you'd know exactly why. With a new album on the horizon, Lana's never been more confident with her work, as her latest singles show. She's exactly what a Sunday evening Glasto crowd need. A dreamy and relaxing set yet one with plenty of pop power to get the sea of people inevitably in awe of her greatness singing along to every word. LDR is also something a bit different to what the Glastonbury crowd has seen over the past few years, but the question of whether she is big enough has always been hanging over her heard. So, is she big enough? Well of course she bloody is...

THE KILLERS
They stole Glasto 2017 with an outrageous secret set yet questions were asked once Dave Keuning and Mark Stoermer left the band. However, those questions have been answered defiantly as Brandon Flowers stepped up his game and has taken his showmanship to another planet. The Killers are on fire right now and have plenty of festival hits to take over Glastonbury once again.

Time for some new blood?
Yet despite these stalwarts being my first picks, and most realistic predictions to top the bill, I would also love to see the Eavis' ignore popularity just once, even for just one of the headline slots and give some new blood a chance. After all, by giving some younger bands a chance to headline, they will inevitably be propelled to superstar-status straight away. So, who am I talking about? Personally, I would love to see Wolf Alice given the chance. Yes, arguably it is too early but they are undoubtedly one of the best bands Britain has right now and eventually, they have to be given a chance. Ellie Rowsell is a certified rockstar now and Wolf Alice are exuberating confidence in their live shows nowadays. They'd easily be able to shift the nerves and smash a headline slot. They have two albums of stellar songs. Eclectic and eccentric, both records are two of the finest this decade has seen.

Who would your pick be?
