Sunflower Bean's 2016 debut LP, Human Ceremony, was a collection of dreamy pop that garnered everyone's interest yet at times, the album seems a little too thought out and over-polished. This year has seen Sunflower Bean grow, develop and emerge as one of the world's hottest bands however. Loosening the reigns on their sound, Sunflower Bean's sophomore effort, Twentytwo in Blue, is simply spectacular whilst their latest release, 'Come For Me' has a black-leather-jacket-strut to it whilst simultaneously glistening with a glorious, Madonna-esque, chorus. They've grown in stature and maturity this year, refusing to let any insecurities impact them and creating music that is stylistically daring and complex, layered with vintage guitar licks and plodding drum beats, the contrast between Julia Cumming's angelic voice and Nick Kivlen's distorted vocal bringing the past and present together, affirming Sunflower Bean's importance in the future.
