ALBUM OF THE YEAR #4: SUNFLOWER BEAN - TWENTYTWO IN BLUE

There’s been a theme throughout this A.O.T.Y list that only continues in the final stretch. These albums are exactly that, albums, made to be listened to in full, from start to finish, sometimes there isn't even an obvious single in sight, and Sunflower Bean’s sophomore effort, Twentytwo in Blue is no different. Despite all being the tender age of, you guessed it, 22, the New York trio have matured immensely since their debut and created a guitar-centered, genre-fluid sound, ranging from political-protest-rock-stompers, ‘Burn It’, to dreamy, angelic love songs, ‘Twentytwo’, there’s something for everyone. Quintessential New York influences are apparent, yet Sunflower Bean create their own sound on this record through the sheer sonic range apparent throughout. A coming-of-age of sorts, Twentytwo in Blue sees Sunflower Bean take charge of their career, and let loose.
