Singer-songwriter EC Gold opened the evening with some
original tracks from his upcoming EP and a cover of Razorlight’s ‘America’, his
voice glistening amongst the fairy-light backdrop before the headliners
arrived. Sophie and the Giants exuded confidence throughout. Despite the cold
reception from the crowd, the young quartet coped well to deliver an exceptional
performance. Sophie’s vocal was glacial. Ethereal, enthralling, utterly epic. Like
a young Florence Welch. The sample-pad acted as a piece of torch-paper
throughout the night. Every time it was hit, the young foursome ignited,
lighting up the stage with their euphoric, soon-to-be anthems and incredibly
infectious chemistry. For a band who only appeared 12 months ago, Sophie and
the Giants are quickly making a name for themselves and with performances like
that, expect their nationwide takeover to continue.
