APE: DIZZEE RASCAL

This was the set I’d been waiting for since childhood. Dizzee Rascal rocked up, sent me bonkers and left, without evening offering to ‘Dance Wiv Me’, the cheeky fucker. Starting with old skool bangers “Fix Up Look Sharp” and “Stop Dat”, he wasted no time in playing the songs everyone came to see. Seeing these songs live, you got the sense you were witnessing something quite special. A pioneer of British rap music, the guy is a living legend. He masterminded a particularly bouncy crowd, with his hits sending everyone absolutely fuckin’ mental. It was a perfect journey through the discography of an East Londoner, who expressed the importance to him of playing on a stage in a park that he and his mum used to visit together, when he was just a boy in da corner.
